Update

Despite not posting in a month, I haven't let this place go again, promise! I have decided, though, that I'm going to hold off on recaps until season 2. Between my excitment for the new season not letting me think much about the old one (at least before the finale) and new classes making it hard to find the time to write anyway, it's best to just look ahead.

Petra-Gate

Sorry for how long this took! It was actually written 2 days ago, but I forgot to post it.

We open in Betty’s room, early morning. There are noises and then Hilda falls in through the window. Screaming ensues. Anyway, big sis was out with Santos doing I-don’t-want-to-know-what. Betty’s still mad at everyone, but Hilda tells her to buck up at steal stuff. Ah, truer words. . .

Anyway, if I didn’t want to know about Hilda and Santos, I really don’t want to know about Wili and Bradford, especially since the latter is a total horn dog. He’s always not looking forward to being an ass to Alexis again. Then fuck off, jerk.

Back at Mode, Daniel is dealing with the mother of Petra, who told him she was sixteen just as he was going to sleep with her. Now that’s pushing it, UB. Anyway, witch woman treats Petra like shit but wants her on the cover- and only the cover. Money and corner pictures won’t cut it. And then she takes her poor, hungry child for a club soda. I hate this business.

Betty arrives and tells herself to suck it up as she goes to face her boss. It’s just a job, which, of course, it’s not. So she gives him his messages (he left his pants somewhere. Damn, slutty, ADHD Daniel) and ignores his puppy eyes. She’s not gonna give him a chance just yet- and good for her.

Not so much to Wili, who’s starting to get annoyed by 24-hour-a-day Bradford. Gee, whoever thought sleeping with your boss to get the job he already denied you while pissing off his awesome and alcoholic wife could go wrong? But never mind, she thinks it’s her only choice, and so gets Marc to switch the pills. Marc also points out that Wili *should* be worrying about Claire. Which is good advice, really.

Just so we can get all the Meades in, here’s Alexis. With daddy again, who gives her a big-ass check that she can keep if she goes away forever. There goes Father of the Year. Alexis tells him she won’t rest until she gets revenge. Yeah, it’s cliché, but can you blame her? And she stalks off.

Out in the lobby, Amanda tells Betty she has messages from Christina and Henry, but Betty still has no time for Christina, and no reason- yet to wait for Henry. Amanda likes this side of her. So do I. As Betty leaves, a stylish young black guy enters. He snaps his fingers. Amanda likes this, too.

Suarez home! Ignacio’s almost home free, so Justin thinks they should have a party with a fence at the door. Hee! Hilda comes down, needing to get to her cosmetology school. She tries to get away with lying about Santos, but fails miserably. Ignacio scolds her, and she grumbles about the freedom she’ll have when she’s 40.

Back outside Mode now, Betty is run up a bit by Petra as she goes to get a bagel for Daniel. When did your boss become so picky, Betty? Anyway, Charlie and Henry arrive, and just in cast we couldn’t tell, Charlie tells us they’re fighting. Well, that’s okay, but trying to bring Betty into said fighting isn’t, so off she runs and off we follow. . .

Right onto the elevator. Like Betty’s day wasn’t awkward enough yet, Christina shows up. Our heroine tries to flee again, only to be trapped in the lobby with Daniel, Henry, and Christina all approaching- in period dress, nonetheless. Poor Betty gives all up, drops the bagel and runs. And finally, finally, a commercial break.

Alexis is holding a meeting at Mode. Daniel walks in and presents a picture of Petra, a la Emeril. There is bickering in which Daniel acts like a loon and Alexis says no way to a toothpaste girl being a cover girl. Justin’s getting his hair done by Hilda at her school so her can get out of gym. This is where Betty, on the run, finds them. Hilda asks the obvious, Betty whines, and Hilda sits her down for some “hairapy” Oh, word play! Meanwhile, Amanda’s fab flirt-friend is trying to get Wilihelmina to see his designs. Marc helps us see that his efforts fair. But Mandy’s there too and she actually feels sorry for him. So she hooks him up and her hooks her up- with a jacket. Amanda would do him if she were gay. The creative director of Mode Brazil, too- at least if Marc hadn’t gotten there first. She shows her jacket of to Wili, who likes it and is pleased to find out “Marc” gave Tavares a calendar date. Meanwhile, Mr. Director- named Rodreigo- hits on Alexis, who looks at him all flustered and really seems nothing like the same woman who pushed her brother in a frozen lake.Meanwhile, Betty’s still complaining and Hilda’s doing the nod she has to even if she’s not listening- don’t worry, she is. And she says Betty’s too hard on her friends. Justin agrees, and a name is brought up, much to Betty’s displeasure. At Mode again, Henry finds Daniel and asks about that big-ass check he was gonna be using as a bargaining chip. But Daniel tells Henry he can have the check back- it won’t be needed in prison. Insert dramatic moment here.

So, who’s Trina DePaulo? (The dropped name that upset Betty) She’s Betty’s ex best friend, who was going to skip the prom with her until she got a call from a boy. Hilda, for what it’s worth, loved her prom. It gave her Justin. But Betty sees her night in a really twisted Carrie-fantasy. Which doesn’t line up with reality at all. Justin says she’s “so theater”. And as Betty had to eat with the lunch ladies from then on, he could be right. Speaking of spilling guts (Yes. We were.), Daniel’s dumped everything on Henry, who’s understandably gobsmacked but realizes they both miss Betty (aww). Daniel realizes that totally screwing himself over might have been, upon reflection, a bad idea. And Henry, poor naïve Henry, thinks Alexis will give Daniel aid. *snort* Well, she won’t, but Amanda will give Tavares advice. In exchange for free clothes. This is going somewhere. Perhaps where Rodrigo wants to go with Alexis, asking her out for dinner. That means Alexis’s first time. . .you know. Her first. Time.

We’re still with Alexis when she gets back. Poor, desperate, Daniel, is trying to win her sympathies with the facts. And getting nowhere, of course. If he wants Petra, he has to quit. She’s a bitch, but we knew that already. But hey, guess, what, it’s Santos! He’s having a sandwich with Ignacio. Things are plesent- for about five secons, but then dad brings up the year his daughter was left alone and pregnant. He gives the usual speech, telling Santos to walk away now if he doesn’t want a future. Santos gets up and walks away. Alexis again. She’s brought Redrigo to her office and is again in loveable mode (no pun intended) with telling him she wants to go out now and being told it’s nice to see her laugh cause she usually looks sad. Anyway, seems this guys quite the charmer, and doesn’t care about her past. We’ll see. Betty steps into Chrstina’s neck of the fashion-magazine woods and scribbles out a note about sundaes. No, no, it’s about wanting to talk to her, and it’s hard to write. But a sundae really would be nice. No would straightening out that wild half-curl of hair left from Hilda’s dressing attempts. Enter Henry, who is surprised to see her and thinks it must be because of Daniel, and cue Betty’s complete confusion.

And now Betty has apparently been filled in because she is walking in and dragging Daniel into his office. She confronts him about last night and he appoligizes. Good, she tells, him because she needs to tell him when he screws up. Oh, and by the way- sixteen! She understands he didn’t know, of course, but still- sixteen! Amanda and Tavares are at it, sorting through his designs. He lets her try something on, and she, figuring he’s gay so it won’t matter, strips in front of him. Oh yeah. And oh no, he’s not thinking about Matt Damon. The romance continues with Hilda waiting for Santos, who’s a bit late and getting Ignacio suspicious. But he shouldn’t be- really shouldn’t be- because Santos not only shows up, but shows up with a ring. Oh yeah, we’re going places.

Or are we? When we come back, Hilda brings Justin downstairs and shows him the ring but asks him whether the should say yes. Justin tells her she should decide for herself, not him. Why can’t all kids be like Justin? He’s a much better family member than Alexis, who remains cold over him- though there is a moment in her eyes after he tells her to always let Betty have a job. But as far as Henry and Betty can see, she’s heartless- not at all kind soap-opera mom-like, Henry informs us. God, he’s cute even if he is too cute. Petra and Mommy show up, much to the chagrin of the geek pair. Much glowering happens, especially when Petra starts to smoke. Hey wait! Only 18 year olds can buy the cigarettes Petra bought outside! This is significant! Betty grabs her purse and breaks the tense Meade meeting into shambles with it. Petra is actually- wait! No, that’s not right. It’s her mom’s purse. An escape seems inevitable, but then! Henry snatches the right purse! Petra is of age! Daniel rips apart the contract he was going to have to sign in from of Alexis! And Betty and Henry twirl! Oh, happy day! Um, almost. We turn a little, to see Charlie staring at them. Back with Mandy and Tav. She wonders if she turned him straight. Nah, he just needs to pretend to be to get work. He wishes he could keep doing what he just did with Amanda. And why not? Gay designer by say, great sex by night- and more clothes, too! If you want more R-rated stuff, Alexis goes to Rodrigo saying she’s had a long day. So they’re gonna make themselves feel better, if you catch my drift. Even if he can tell it’s her first time as a man. Hilda and Santos are slightly more tender. Except that she’s apparently told him know, for her own sake but his heartbreak. But after he leaves, she changes her mind. He’s waiting at the door, they kiss, and fluffy love is awesome.

Alexis and Rodrigo are in bed, and completely at random, he invites her overseas with him. She considers it, especially when he mentions her family as something to get away from. Agh, this is fucked. But maybe not so much because Daniel tells Betty they should celebrate with champagne. Seems he’s not learning his lesson. But he’s also convering up for a load of shit. Betty then goes to Christina, who is very sorry and wants to make up for it. Maybe they aren’t quite there, but almost. But this isn’t dramatic enough a note for the show to end on. Hey, guess what? Rodrigo isn’t all he seemed. Turns out Bradford, with Wili’s advice, hired him to seduce poor, loney Alexis, and get her out of his hair. Remember that trip? Okay, I lied. Happiness comes again as Hilda shows Betty her new ring back at home and they start to make plans. But wait, no. No, I didn’t lie. Ignacio comes downstairs, upset. All those well-made plans fell through and he’s been sent out of the States. Noooo, Papi, noooo! And why, Ugly Betty?! Why?!

Back in Business!

Point the first: Having finished the work for my summer class and read Harry Potter and the Deatly Hallows (I don't think I'll ever recover. Seriously, OMG. And I'm basically in mourning now. . .) , I have everything out of the way. Still 2 months- and a day- to the start of the season, with 1 month and a day till I go back to college. We'll see what I can do it that time. . .

Point the second: The first season DVD will be released August 21st- less than a month away. The second season, however, as I indicated, won't start until September 27th. But hey, we're just over halfway through the summer. 9 weeks to the day left, and it's all downhill from here!

( Minor) Spoiler Dump!

With the Pottergeddon almost upon us and only a page or 2 of the papers for my summer classes left, I should be back soon. In the meantime, here's everything (little as it is) that I've collected about the second season to date.

First, about a new cast member:

Gio will be a handsome man in his early twenties. He looks to be a love interest for Betty (Oh. No. Henry. No.), and he will probably be staying the whole season. He his supposed to be likeable and ambitious, and he runs the sandwich cart at Mode. He will be played by "Six Feet Under" star Freddy Rodriguez.

Sources vary, including Ausiello, Televisionista, E! and others.

And a few other guest roles to be cast:

*A new female fashion editor

*A bodygard for Wili

*A camp counselor for a camp Justin will be going to

*A 6-8 year old Latino or African-American child

Kristen also tells us that

Kevin Allejandro will be in a new show this season, and as such, Santos is apparently only going to appear in the season premire. Although this would seem to mean he is in fact dead, the producers/cast themselves might have given a point to disputee this.

Recently, the cast and crew attended Outfest, an event in support of the gay community. We learn that

Marc's mother will be reurning and that he will get a boyfriend, that Santos only *may* be dead and there also *might* be a musical episode.

Finally, and best of all (IMHO), Ugly-Is-In has some scans of America and Eric shooting a scene it a park.

It appears Betty is either digging something up or burying it under the ground. Daniel is helping to some extent, but not much, as he is in a wheelchair.

This Blog WILL Return!

So, like with so many projects in my life, I started this in a rush and then just totally let this go. I blame ADD, but it really is mostly just laziness. Of course, I don't know whether anyone's actually reading this, but in case anybody was, I'm sorry. I'm going to do my absolute best to return. I'd like to catch up on the rest of season 1, but I can't promise anything other than that if I do, I'll be leaving out a review of Punch Out. I have no problem with characters I like screwing up, but that felt like the writers baiting viewers to hate Daniel, and when Henry's still there being all perfect...meh. Anyway, on topic! If the catch-up does come, it won't be for at least another couple weeks. I have some classwork to do, and dates with both the Harry Potter and Shakespeare fandoms coming up, lol.

Speaking of which, though this won't become my LJ, I'm going to start adding some personal news because you all should know who I am. Since I last wrote, I finished my sophomore year at Saginaw Valley State. 4 As and a C. I'm pretty happy, though that last one's a killjoy. And in news that's actually interesting, I then returned to uni for 2 weeks of summer classes there, which lead up to...two weeks in London! It was fabulous and has been recapped in Livejournal (If I haven't linked that, just do a user search for "moondustwolf"). The remaining work from that is the classwork I mentioned earlier. Being back home has been a fair bit less interesting, aside from hanging out with friends and going to see SiCKO and Ratatouille, both of which, vastly different as they are, are A-grade fantastic. Go see them!

Finally, in a desperate attempt to give you *something*, I have a few episode titles for next season! They're tiny spoilers, but hopefully they can be worth something to someone who hasn't seen them yet. Unfortunately, sources are now saying the premire will probably be September 27. Unfortunate because it's much too far away for me! But here's something for now, and I'll try to bring you both posts AND spoilers as we suffer through this hiatus.

Hi everyone,

I just want to extend sympathies to anyone touched by this tragedy. 32 innocent people lost their lives. Sad that we make a bigger deal about the start of life of a fetus whose mother doesn't want it than about gun control to prevent walking, breathing people with friends and family from being killed. It's not that I think abortion a totally awesome thing or anything- it's a matter than needs to be discussed very seriously on an individual basis- but our priorities are way off-base. Pro-life should not only mean pro-fetus *sigh* I'm sorry. It's just so horrible. Our Constitutional rights are being taken away right and left, and what good does it do? God bless. This could have been prevented.

On a lighter note, new Ugly Betty tonight! And I'm really sorry this blog is so slow. Unfortunately, I'll be busy with stuff until the end of the month and then from mid-May to mid-June, so things won't really get going until summer, which of course means they won't *really* get going till next season. I'll try to make a news post with new spoilers soon, though!

UGLY BETTY - "Secretaries Day"- Betty struggles to come up with the cash to solve the latest Suarez family dilemma, all while planning Mode`s big assistants week bash at a medieval themed restaurant, a place with an unlikely link to Amanda`s past. Meanwhile, Daniel tries to heed Betty`s advice about his sexual addiction issues; Alexis considers Rodrigo`s offer (guest star Cristian de la Fuente); Hilda faces a tough cosmetology school exam, and Wilhelmina becomes even bolder in her plans for total Mode domination, on "Ugly Betty," THURSDAY, MAY 3 (8:00-9:00 p.m., ET) on the ABC Television Network.

But that's nothing- the episode pics; OMG, the episode pics. Hetty, while adorable, looks as contrived as ever, but check out the ones in the jail- oh, this episode is going to be fabulous and such a heartbreaker. Highlight: But where's Daniel? Kicking his father's ass, I hope.

Things go from bad to worse when a tell-all writer (Emmy winner Leslie Jordan, "Will & Grace," "Boston Legal") in possession of Fey Sommer's diaries starts stalking the Meades. Another Suarez, Ignacio, feels the heat when Immigration caseworker Constance (guest star Octavia Spencer) pressures him to make their relationship a romantic one, and Wilhelmina and Alexis both try to get their hands on Fey's diaries -- but for different reasons -- on "Ugly Betty," THURSDAY, APRIL 19 (8:00-9:00 p.m., ET) on the ABC Television Network. Don't Ask, Don't Tell

So, last time on Ugly Betty, Betty had her mouth pried open for orthodontist work (I know how this feels, and trust me, it sucks), Marc disliked Betty, Ignacio was put on house arrest, Betty and Henry broke up only they were never together, and Daniel was upset with his mother while Alexis was angsty and Claire turned herself in for murder. So yeah. Maybe that was more than just last time.

Speaking of that last point, Claire’s being arrested and Bradford set free. Boo! A reporter tries to ask Betty, and in avoiding him, she walks into a phone booth. This amuses Justin and Hilda, but Betty yells at Hilda who yells at Justin. Justin gets ready for school, Betty talks about her guilt and discusses the Meades with Hilda. It’s a good the Suarezes are from a nice normal family with a father who can’t leave the house without setting off alarms. At Mode, Alexis goes into her father's office and is scared to death by Bradford. There’s a bit of humor and then loads of Bradford being a total ass. Jeez, I hate him. Anyway, Marc’s mom is coming, and Amanda is willing to be his fake girlfriend, as usual. Only not. She can consider herself shaved. Thanks to the TWoP forums for explaining that to me! Amanda’s pissed at the fake break-up at the non-fake pregnancy scare. Back to Claire. She’s bloody well handcuffed to the bed and is still as awesome as ever. Bradford still sucks, though. And Daniel shows up. His ass-dad tried to fire Alexis, but can’t because Claire owns Mode. Seriously. Seriously awesome!

To explain this, with Daniel and Betty (Yay!), Daniel doesn’t want to work with Alexis because Alexis always wanted to beat him, even when they were running. Daniel, your family sucks. Except for Claire, who’s awesome. Betty wants to help though! Moving on, everyone in the entire world is an editor-in-chief except Wili. Oh, pity! And Alexis and Daniel squabble some more. Daniel stalks out and Wili starts baiting Alexis. Instead of giving up, she should smear herself all over the magazine. To help with this, she’s giving the Coolest Tranny Ever her office. Now she and Marc are in this cluttered little room that seems to be blinding Marc. It’s all part of Wili’s evil plan! Oh shock! And then Marc’s mom shows up…to music. And with a cat! It hisses at Amanda, who hisses back. Apparently, Miss Formal Shorts broke Marc’s heart while being addicted to sex and drugs. What’s the rock and roll? Well, Miss Lady Buttons of Camelot lost a jewel from her color, Amanda makes Betty into Marc’s girlfriend (she looks adorable when amused) and Marc. Kisses. Betty. ZOMG! (That counts and rock and roll, right?)

Washing out his mouth, Marc confirms to Betty he hasn’t told his mom he’s gay. And he needs Betty’s help, which would be easier to get had he not made her eat glue. Marc’s mom wants to talk about cats. Amanda doesn’t. Ms. Weiner says she’s cranky when she hasn’t had her fix. Amanda says Betty hasn’t even told her father she’s dating, which will make for a very interesting phone conversation we are spared from hearing. Meanwhile, Marc offers Betty information for Daniel if she’ll help him. (Yay!) Amanda shows up and tells them they’re having dinner with Betty's family. Oh, this is gonna go well. Later, Betty tells Daniel Marc told her Alexis is going to screw with him. Duh. But she’s also going to help him, which confuses Daniel, what with that whole glue thing. Now she’s his girlfriend and we’re lucky Daniel’s head doesn’t explode from the WTF of this yet. The things she does for him! (Yay!) Oh, and Alexis’s assistant wants to be Daniel and Daniel proves he isn’t totally blind to the fact he’s kinda sucked lately. But then Alexis plays him like a fiddle, after an awesome comment or two about the Peanuts gang. (R.I.P. Charles Schultz!) Daniel finally trusts her-bad idea much?- and Alexis calls her assistant in to screw Daniel over. The assistant finds this awesome. Apparently he doesn’t like Daniel as much as he says.

Marc tells Betty they met in a plot from She’s All That only minus the actual good looks. Betty knows everything about Marc and Marc knows nothing about Betty. Henry knows everything, though. Oh, isn’t he just perfect? So good it hurts, and I mean that literally. Oh well. Betty, Mulan rocks! So does Alexis, who’s jamming out to a song I now adore in a sexy photo shoot. Wili walks in and says she loves what Alexis did to the office. So do I. Day-um! By the way, Bradford’s still a sex-obsessed ass and Daniel’s still oblivious. And Wili’s still evil, so Marc’s dressing as her for Halloween, which should probably be insulting but oh well. Betty comes in and is all iffy about Daniel’s Letter from the Editor, causing him to imitate her voice. (Yay!) She says this letter shouldn’t just be about shoes, and he should do more because they’re usually awesome. Only doesn’t really write them, he just says he does. Oh, Daniel. You suck. But Betty’s going to make you write from the heart anyway. Magical transition to night scene! Marc shows up at the Casa De Suarez- late. Blame his mom. Miss Lady Buttons of Camelot sucked at the cat show, so she’s just Buttons now. Aww. Ignacio starts to play along nicely, and Marc has an extremely weird present. Then Hilda shows up and several million viewers say, in one voice, “This is going to be the best thing EVER.”

Dinner is awkward. (I’m going for Understatement of the Year here) Betty is Marc’s boyfriend! Great! Can we rename this The Sex Change Show? Ms. Weiner started in cat shows with cats more mindful of polite gestures than Ignacio and we learn Marc had sex with college roommate who broke his heart only we don’t really learn that because his mom can’t know! I *heart* this show’s dirty jokes, BTW. Don't worry about the conservative viewers; they were gone ages ago. Marc and Betty don’t know how long they’ve been going out, so she takes him to her room where there’s a scene that’s amusing, then angsty. Marc will never please his mother. Betty will never have a mother again. Sob! They go back to dinner, but Justin as shown up and is as squee as ever. So let’s hear the stories of how Hilda got knocked up and Justin is supporting a murderer! Which is good because it’s Claire, who’s awesome! He also likes the kitty! And Dreamgirls. So does Marc. Only he says it’s because of boobs. And Ignacio sets off the alarms when the kitty tries to escape, so Hilda says he didn’t kill anyone even though he did. And then Daniel shows up and Justin calls him Betty’s ex-boyfriend. (YAY!) Best. Sequence. Ever.

But finally it’s time for a new setting. In the hospital, Wili, who’s’ getting more evil by the second, tries to get Claire to give her the magazine. With alcohol, O God! But Claire stays strong. But Wili kinda wins in the end. Aww, Claire. You’re still awesome. At the Suarez house, Daniel is sympathetic to Betty and he has an article, which he brought to her because he wants to see her proud of him. (YAAY!) And he likes her pep talks! (YAAAY!) But then, after he leaves, Marc spills the beans about Alexis, so Betty runs out, spilling the beans about him. No, not those beans. The other ones. In the car, Daniel’s pissed, but they're stuck in traffic, so. He and Betty get out and start running. But that's done for now- time for angst! Marc lies once more, and his mom is a total bitch, so so much for lying. She comments on Ignacio’s immigration, Hilda’s sluttiness, and then…Justin. Oh, God. Marc’s upset and finally tries to slap his mother upside the head. She tries to live in denial but he won’t let her. And she shatters him by saying she doesn’t give a damn about him. Jeez. Hello, new homophobic bitch. Go to Hell. Oh, Marc. But don’t cry yet, Daniel and Betty are still running and Alexis sees them. She starts running too and maybe Daniel would have bear her if he hadn’t worried when Betty joked she was having a heart attack. (YAAAA- okay, I’m done.) There is a Chariots of Fire running scene, where Daniel finally sees his brother in Alexis, and Alexis totally smashes that.

Speaking of totally smashed, Daniel is. Betty thinks it’s because they won, but even though Daniel buys her a drink, he has to break the truth. So he’s giving up, which is going to hurt them both. At least make sure she keeps her job, Daniel! Not that I don’t understand why you kinda want to die. Alexis really, really sucks. And yet not as much as Wili, who is going to try to seduce Bradford. She walks in on him, all skanky and- thank God we don’t have to watch this. We do have to watch Marc being sad as fuck, though, which is painful but wonderful. *sniff* Betty’s all sympathetic and supportive and we can hope he’ll be okay. God, he breaks my heart. And so does Daniel. How come? Betty pulls out the letter he wrote that was going to be printed before Alexis screwed him over. It’s all about how much he missed/loves his brosis and wants everything to be okay because of family. Oh, Daniel. Alexis, I could strangle you right now. He’s turned back into a womanizer because of you, only a really, really depressed one. At least Betty has her family. They rock, but the end of this episode is still so sad. But amazing. But sad. Those things go together a lot, don’t they?

23 Episodes?!

I know it's been, like, 10 hours, but this is important! IF Wikipedia is to be believed, we're getting 23 episodes this even, as opposed to the earlier 22! And the title of this season finale is...

Hi, everyone! As soon as I can, I'll be working on my recap/commentary of the latest episode, "Don't Ask, Don't Tell". Expect lots of squealing and wank, as well as much focus on Detty/Meade drama/everything faboo. In other words, expect what will be the norm here! This won't be as in-depth as, say, the fablous recaps at TWoP, but it should be enjoyable enough.
